Yaya Toure could become Tigran Barseghyan’s new head coach at Slovan

Legendary former Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure could begin his independent coaching career at Slovak club Slovan Bratislava, where former Armenia captain Tigran Barseghyan currently plays.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Toure is one step away from becoming the new head coach of Slovan Bratislava. Slovak media also report that the Ivorian is among the leading candidates for the vacant position at the club.

The head coach position at Slovan became vacant after Vladimir Weiss left the club and returned to work with the Slovakia national team. Under Weiss, the Bratislava side maintained its dominance in the domestic league and regularly competed in European tournaments.

For Yaya Toure, a possible appointment at Slovan would mark his first major independent role as head coach of a senior team. Previously, he worked as part of coaching staffs, including as an assistant to Roberto Mancini with the Saudi Arabia national team.

This news is of particular interest to Armenian football fans because of Tigran Barseghyan. The former Armenia captain continues to play for Slovan and has already won five league titles with the Bratislava club. The Armenian midfielder’s contract runs until 2027.

The intrigue now is not only whether Toure will become Slovan’s new head coach, but also how Barseghyan’s role in the team may change under the new manager. As for whether the Manchester City legend will allow the Armenian footballer to continue his ritual trip to McDonald’s, as Vladimir Weiss did, that remains unknown for now.
