Valerio Aboian Reaches Challenger Quarterfinal in Rosario

23-year-old Armenian-Argentinian tennis player Valerio Aboian (ATP No. 526) continues his strong performance on the ATP Challenger Tour.

Today, February 5, in Rosario, he defeated the more experienced Spaniard Pedro Sánchez-Izquierdo (ATP No. 279) in straight sets — 7:5, 6:4 — to advance to the quarterfinals. Aboian’s next opponent will be Tseng Chun-Hsin (ATP No. 122) from Taiwan.

While he still has a long way to go to match the achievements of another famous Armenian from Argentina, David Nalbandian, Aboian’s current form could see him break into the ATP top 200.

Interestingly, his brother Leo Aboian is also a professional tennis player, although he has been competing much less frequently lately.
