On October 6 in Saint Petersburg, the IBA.Pro 10 tournament took place, with its main event being the fight for the IBA.Pro Russian Championship title in the super lightweight division. The bout featured Vage Sarukhanyan (22-4-1) and Georgy Chelokhsaev (24-3-1).
After all ten rounds, the judges unanimously awarded the victory to Sarukhanyan — with a score of 96–94. Thus, the 35-year-old Armenian boxer became the new IBA.Pro Russian Champion.
Interestingly, before the fight Sarukhanyan was considered a clear underdog, with bookmakers offering odds above 6.0 for his victory. After the fight, Vage smilingly thanked the bookmakers, noting that his friends made good money from their disbelief in him.
During the bout, Sarukhanyan’s corner was manned by his brother, Vladimir Sarukhanyan, who supported and guided him throughout the fight.
The victory over Chelokhsaev became one of the most significant in Vage Sarukhanyan’s career, opening new prospects for him in the professional boxing scene.
