Urartu claimed an important but very hard-fought victory in the 25th round of the Armenian Premier League. The team edged Ararat 1-0 and moved back into the top three of the championship table.
The only goal of the match was scored by Khariton Ayvazyan. Urartu captain Zhirayr Margaryan provided the assist. For the defender, it was already his eighth assist of the current Armenian Premier League season. With this figure, he is ahead of Artur Shaghoyan and Olawale Farayola in the race among the league’s top assist providers.
This victory is highly important for Urartu in the battle for European qualification places. The team returned to the top three of the table and strengthened its position in the final stretch of the season, where the competition among the leaders remains extremely tight.
At the same time, the match was far from easy for the winners. Ararat, who continue to sit at the bottom of the table, came close to earning points. At the start of the second half, the team scored, but the goal was disallowed. In the closing stages, Ararat created several dangerous chances, but the hosts failed to convert them.
In the end, Urartu held on to their narrow lead and secured a crucial victory, while Ararat once again remained without points despite a solid performance and a number of chances near the opponent’s goal.
