Ugochukwu Iwu joins Armenia squad to continue injury recovery

Armenia national team and Rubin Kazan midfielder Ugochukwu Iwu has arrived at the national team camp, where he will continue his recovery from injury.

The player will work under the supervision of Armenia national team physiotherapist Pablo Llanos. As a result, there are now three players in the special injured players’ group: Ugochukwu Iwu, Styopa Mkrtchyan and Vahan Bichakhchyan.

Iwu has not played since February 2026. The midfielder underwent surgery due to back pain and has been going through the recovery process since then.

In the current Russian Premier League season, Ugochukwu Iwu made 14 appearances for Rubin and provided 3 assists. Due to injury, he missed the entire second half of the season, as well as Armenia’s March match against Belarus.

Iwu will not be available for the national team’s June friendly matches against Kazakhstan and Moldova, but he is expected to return to action in time for the Nations League games in September.

As a reminder, Armenia will face Kazakhstan on June 6 in Yerevan and will then play a friendly match against Moldova on June 9.
