UFC 324: Weigh-in Results — Weight Miss, Hospitalization, and Fight Cancellation

At the morning weigh-ins for UFC 324 in Las Vegas, one of the most alarming incidents in UFC history occurred.

Paddy Pimblett (23-3, UFC 7-0), who is set to face Justin Gaethje (26-5, UFC 9-5) for the interim lightweight title, was the first on the scale, coming in at 69.9 kg. Gaethje, the last to weigh in within the allotted time, hit the 70.3 kg limit exactly.

However, public attention turned to the situation involving Cameron Smotherman (12-6, UFC 1-2). After weighing in successfully at 61.4 kg for his fight against Ricky Turcios (12-5, UFC 2-3), Smotherman began to wobble upon stepping off the scale, lost balance, and collapsed face-first on stage. His head hit the platform twice. He remained unconscious for several minutes until medical staff intervened. Later, the UFC officially canceled the fight, reporting that Smotherman had been taken to a local hospital.

Two other fighters missed weight. Alex Perez (24-10, UFC 6-6) weighed in at 58.3 kg — 1.1 kg over the flyweight limit (57.2 kg) for his bout with Charles Johnson (18-7, UFC 7-5), who made weight. As a result, Johnson will receive 25% of Perez’s purse. This marks the third time Perez has missed weight in the UFC, with one previous incident leading to a bout cancellation at UFC 271.

Former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo (25-5-1, UFC 14-5-1) also missed weight, coming in at 62.8 kg — 1.1 kg over the bantamweight limit (61.7 kg). His opponent, Umar Nurmagomedov (19-1, UFC 7-1), made weight. Figueiredo will also forfeit 25% of his purse.

All other fighters made weight successfully. The ceremonial weigh-ins took place later at T-Mobile Arena, where UFC 324 will be held on Saturday.
