Wrestling

Armenian wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan has received a new opponent for RAF 10, which will take place on June 13 in St. Louis.

Harutyunyan was originally scheduled to face Japan’s Olympic champion Rei Higuchi, but the Japanese wrestler withdrew from the bout. The Armenian athlete’s new opponent will be Puerto Rico national team representative Caleb Smith.

The 25-year-old Smith is a two-time NCAA champion and one of the notable wrestlers in the 61 kg weight category. At the most recent Pan-American Wrestling Championships, he won a silver medal, confirming his high level on the international stage.

For both Arsen Harutyunyan and Caleb Smith, the upcoming match will mark their debut in the Real American Freestyle league. At the same time, Harutyunyan enters the tournament as one of the most decorated representatives of Armenian wrestling in recent years.

RAF 10 is expected to be one of the league’s most exciting events. Another representative of Armenia, UFC fighter Arman Tsarukyan, will compete in the co-main event of the evening against Tony Ferguson.

The main event of the tournament will feature a clash between Khamzat Chimaev and Dillon Danis. Interestingly, Danis also has Armenian roots, which adds extra interest to the event for Armenian fans.
