At just 21 years old, English footballer Billy Vigar, a former Arsenal academy player, has passed away. The Chichester City forward suffered a fatal head injury during an Isthmian Premier League match against Wingate & Finchley.
The incident occurred on September 20. While chasing the ball, Vigar slipped and collided with a concrete barrier. The impact was so severe that the young striker sustained catastrophic brain damage. Doctors immediately placed him in an induced coma and performed surgery, but his injuries proved incompatible with life. On September 25, the club confirmed his passing.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Billy Vigar. During this difficult time, we kindly ask that his family’s privacy be respected,” Chichester City said in a statement.
Vigar had previously played for Derby, Hastings, and Eastbourne Borough. At Arsenal, where he progressed from the academy to signing a professional contract in 2022, he was described as a fast, powerful, and determined striker.
The London club also offered condolences: “Everyone at Arsenal is deeply shocked by this tragic news. We share this loss with Billy’s family and friends.”
