Tenerife made a successful start to the new LaLiga 2 season, claiming a 3-1 away victory over Eibar.
Armenia international striker Grant-Leon Ranos was included in Tenerife’s matchday squad but did not make it onto the pitch. The forward joined the club from Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer.
Álvaro Sabrera’s side started the match with a fairly attacking 4-2-1-3 formation. In the second half, the coaching staff gradually replaced all four players in the attacking unit, but Ranos was not among those introduced.
The 39-year-old striker Enric, who scored one of the goals, was replaced by another Tenerife newcomer, Martin Pechar. Both starting wingers were also substituted during the second half. Judging by their match ratings, neither had a particularly impressive game, but the coach opted to bring on other wide players in their place.
Therefore, Ranos could theoretically have replaced any of the four players in the attacking unit. However, the first competitive match of the season has yet to provide an answer as to exactly which position the coaching staff plans to use him in.
The next round should offer a clearer indication of the role reserved for the 22-year-old forward at his new club and how quickly he can establish himself in the battle for playing time. Tenerife’s next match will take place on August 23 against Almería.
