Tenerife unexpectedly terminate Pedro’s contract as Ranos faces new competition

An unusual story has unfolded at Tenerife surrounding the potential return of the island’s academy product, renowned Spanish winger Pedro Rodriguez.

The 38-year-old, best known for his spells with Barcelona, Chelsea, Roma and Lazio, was born in Tenerife and wanted to finish his career at his hometown club. The two sides had already signed a contract, while Tenerife had officially announced the player’s arrival.

However, the situation changed dramatically shortly afterwards. Following a personal conversation with Pedro, the club’s sporting director decided to terminate the agreement.

A Tenerife representative commented on the situation in fairly strong terms:

“The players who will play for Tenerife are those who want to be here. In January, anyone who has not given 100 percent may leave.”

Nevertheless, the club has not been left without reinforcements in attack. Tenerife have signed 33-year-old right winger Gerard Valentin, as well as 26-year-old forward Christian Gomis, who previously played for Schalke.

As a result, competition for places in the team’s attacking line is set to increase significantly.

It should be recalled that Armenia international striker Grant-Leon Ranos joined Tenerife this summer. The Armenian forward will now have to compete with his new attacking teammates for a place in the lineup.
