Suren Grigoryan and Andranik Karapetyan to Face Off at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships

Today, on October 7, medals will be awarded in the men’s 88 kg weight category at the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships. Representing Armenia will be 21-year-old Suren Grigoryan.
His opponent will be former longtime member of the Armenian national team Andranik Karapetyan, who now represents Bosnia and Herzegovina. Both Armenian lifters are not considered top favorites for gold, but they could contend for medals both in individual lifts and in the total.

Colombian lifter Yeison Lopez (390 kg) is the clear favorite in the category. His main competitors are Marin Robu and Ro Kwang Ryol (both 380 kg). Armenian Suren Grigoryan, with a declared total of 375 kg, could join the medal fight, while Andranik Karapetyan is expected to challenge for a medal in the snatch event.
Group A competition in the 88 kg category will begin at 19:00 Yerevan time (18:00 Moscow time).
