Fifth Day of the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships: New World Record and Indonesia’s Victory

On October 6, in the Norwegian city of Førde, the fifth competitive day of the 2025 World Weightlifting Championships took place. On this day, medals were contested in only one weight class — men’s 79 kg.

The winner was the reigning Olympic champion in the 73 kg class, Rizki Juniansyah from Indonesia, setting a new world record in the clean & jerk — 204 kg. His compatriot Rahmat Erwin Abdullah also vied for medals but ultimately settled for silver in the clean & jerk.

The silver medal in the total (two-event) result was won by Ri Chong Song from North Korea, which allowed North Korea to strengthen its position in the overall team standings. The bronze in the total went to Egyptian Elsayed Mohamed Younes.

  • Rizki Juniansyah (Indonesia) — 204 kg (world record)

  • Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (Indonesia) — 203 kg

  • Son Hyeon-ho (South Korea) — 198 kg

Snatch:

  • Ri Chong Song (North Korea) — 163 kg

  • Elsayed Mohamed Younes (Egypt) — 162 kg

  • Rizki Juniansyah (Indonesia) — 157 kg

On October 7, the medal contests will be held in the men’s 88 kg and women’s 69 kg categories. Representing Armenia will be Suren Grigoryan (88 kg).
