Spertsyan ahead of Al-Ahli debut: “I’m here to win as many titles as possible”

Eduard Spertsyan is preparing to play his first official match for Al-Ahli. In the opening round of the Pro League, the Armenian midfielder’s team will face Al-Diriyah.

The opposition squad features several well-known players, including Gaëtan Laborde, Berat Djimsiti, Idrissa Gueye and Chancel Mbemba.

Before traveling to Riyadh, the Armenia national team captain gave a short interview to the club’s media channel. Spertsyan spoke about his first impressions of his new team, highlighted the enormous size of Al-Ahli’s fan base and stressed that he joined the club to win matches and trophies.

The supporters made a particularly strong impression on the 26-year-old.

“When I watched some matches and videos, I was very surprised by the huge number of fans. I understand how important this is for the club. We will give everything, work hard, win and celebrate victories together with them,” Spertsyan said.

The Armenian midfielder also noted the high level of the Saudi Arabian league and emphasized that the team must be prepared for serious competition in every tournament.

“It’s a difficult league, and I know that. That’s why we need to prepare well and work hard. We have to be ready for every competition. Our goal is to win as many titles as possible,” Eduard said.

Spertsyan also spoke warmly about the atmosphere within his new team.

“When I met the players for the first time, the feeling was amazing. There is a great atmosphere here, and everyone communicates like friends. That is very important, and I’m genuinely happy to be here.”

The Armenia captain also spoke separately about his upcoming first meeting with the Al-Ahli supporters.

“I’m really looking forward to it. Of course, I want to see our fans. I will give this club everything I have.”

Spertsyan stressed that he fully understands the stature of the club and the expectations of its huge fan base.

“I know this is a big club with a huge army of supporters. That is very important in football. When a team has so many fans, it is something special. I’m here to win as many titles as possible and to make my family and the Al-Ahli fans happy.”

At his new club, Spertsyan will wear the No. 8 shirt. He explained his choice simply: Eduard also wears No. 8 for the Armenia national team.
