Shahbazyan faces six-month layoff after UFC 331, Tsarukyan suspended for 45 days

The California State Athletic Commission has issued medical suspensions to fighters who competed at UFC 331. Armenian fighters Edmen Shahbazyan and Arman Tsarukyan, both victorious at the event, were among those temporarily sidelined.

Shahbazyan received a medical suspension of up to 180 days due to a suspected fracture in his right foot. The injury was detected following his victory over Brazilian fighter Bruno Ferreira.

However, the six-month layoff is not mandatory. The 28-year-old may return earlier if he undergoes an examination and receives medical clearance. Until then, Shahbazyan will not be allowed to compete.

Tsarukyan, who defeated Mauricio Ruffy, was suspended for 45 days, with no contact training permitted during the first 30 days. The decision was attributed to the physically demanding nature of the bout.

Tsarukyan’s medical suspension is expected to expire in early November. Therefore, it should not currently interfere with the UFC’s No. 2-ranked lightweight contender’s plans to compete in a title fight in December.
