On January 23, the Slovenian capital Ljubljana hosted the first Group C match of the 2026 UEFA Futsal European Championship. In a surprising turn of events, Belgium crushed the match favorite — Belarus — with a resounding 4–0 victory.
Belarus started the game actively and had several good chances in the first half, but failed to convert them. Meanwhile, Belgian captain Omar Rahou displayed outstanding skill, scoring a hat-trick (3’, 29’, 37’). Steven Dillien added another goal in the final minute (38’) with a long shot from his own half, as Belarus had committed everyone forward.
This win marked Belgium’s first victory in the final stage of a Futsal Euro since 1996 — a strong start for Karim Bachar’s side at Euro 2026.
Later today in the same group, hosts Slovenia will face off against one of the tournament favorites — Spain.
The tournament is being held across Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia from January 21 to February 7. Earlier, Armenia celebrated its first-ever win at the EURO.
