The Armenia national futsal team made an impressive start to the final stage of the UEFA Futsal Euro 2026, claiming a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Ukraine, the bronze medallists of the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
In the opening round match, the team coached by Ruben Nazaretyan conceded first but managed to turn the game around in the second half. Ukraine took the lead through Vladyslav Pervieiev, who struck into the near corner past goalkeeper Albert Aghajanyan.
Armenia responded quickly. Mihran Dermenjyan scored the national team’s historic first goal at European Championships after a spectacular back-heel assist from Arsen Petrosov. Dermendzhyan then completed his brace to secure Armenia’s first-ever victory in the final stages of the Euros: following a shot by Mikael Gandilyan, the ball fell to the forward, who back-heeled it into the net past Yurii Savenko.
The final score was 2–1 in favour of Armenia. According to the tournament’s official sources, the team showed great character after conceding and made the most of their chances.
Armenia will play their next match on January 25 against the Czech Republic futsal team, who will face Lithuania on the same day.
