Armenia’s Road to EURO 2026
The breakthrough of Armenian futsal is the result of years of systematic development. Head coach Ruben Nazaretyan has been in charge of the national team since 2003 and has spent more than two decades building futsal in the country virtually from scratch.
Significant progress became evident during the qualification campaign for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup, where Armenia recorded an impressive streak of seven consecutive victories, defeating Czechia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Scotland and Bulgaria. However, at the decisive stage, the team faced serious challenges and was forced to rebuild the squad urgently due to restrictions on the use of Brazilian players.
By the start of the EURO 2026 qualifying campaign, Armenia approached the competition fully prepared. Drawn into a group with one of the world’s strongest futsal teams, Kazakhstan, Armenia secured five wins and one draw. Victories over Denmark, Albania and Kazakhstan itself ensured first place in the group and a historic qualification for the EURO finals — achieved without foreign-born players.
