Football club Sunderland has secured promotion to the English Premier League after defeating Sheffield United 2-1 in the Championship play-off final. The winning goal was scored in the 95th minute by 19-year-old forward Tom Watson.
The team finished 4th in the regular Championship season, beat Coventry City in the play-off semi-final, and snatched a dramatic victory over Sheffield United in the decisive match, ensuring a long-awaited return to the elite of English football.
It is worth noting that Armenia U19 international Finn Geragusian plays for Sunderland’s youth team. The 17-year-old striker has not yet debuted for the senior squad, but he has shown impressive scoring ability in matches for the club’s second team.
This marks Sunderland’s first return to the Premier League since the 2016/2017 season. After a seven-year absence, the legendary club will once again compete among England’s top teams.
