The Armenia men's national football team has dropped one position in the FIFA ranking following the September-October international window and now sits 108th in the world.
During this period, Yeghishe Melikyan's side played four UEFA Nations League matches, recording one win, one draw and two defeats.
Armenia's results:
-
Armenia — Latvia — 2-0
-
Armenia — Montenegro — 2-3
-
Cyprus — Armenia — 2-0
-
Montenegro — Armenia — 0-0
The current position is Armenia's lowest in the past ten years. In October 2016, the national team was ranked 125th in the FIFA standings.
Why Armenia dropped a position
In September and October, Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches were played alongside the UEFA Nations League fixtures.
The FIFA ranking importance coefficient for AFCON qualifiers is 25, while Nations League matches carry a coefficient of 15. This allowed several African national teams to earn more ranking points and move ahead of European sides.
Positions of Armenia's opponents
Among Armenia's group opponents, Montenegro recorded the best result. After three wins and one draw, the team moved up one place and now sits 79th in the world.
Cyprus, despite recording two wins and one draw during the international window, dropped one position and is now ranked 125th.
The biggest decline came from Latvia, who fell six places to 143rd. This is the eighth-lowest ranking among European national teams.
FIFA Ranking Top 10
