Pyunik defeated reigning Armenian champions Ararat-Armenia in Matchday 5 of the Premier League. The match ended 2-1.
Artak Oseyan’s side built a two-goal advantage in the first half. Daniil Kulikov and Gevorg Tarakhchyan were on target. It was Tarakhchyan’s fourth goal in four league appearances.
Ararat-Armenia improved after the break and took more control of the game, but managed to pull only one goal back. Carlos França scored for the reigning champions, netting his first goal in the Armenian Premier League.
Ararat-Armenia head coach Manuel Tulipa made significant changes to his starting lineup following the team’s Europa League victory. Pyunik, meanwhile, played without Karlen Hovhannisyan, who has travelled for a trial with Russian club Akron, and without Yansane, who has left the team.
After four matches, Pyunik have collected 10 points and sit fourth in the standings. Ararat-Armenia also have 10 points, but the reigning champions have already played five matches.
