The winner of the World Wrestling Championship Shamil Mammadov changed his sports citizenship

Wrestler Shamil Mammadov, the former representative of Russia in the weight category up to 65 kg, has officially changed his sports citizenship. From now on, he will play for the Bulgarian national team. This was reported by several wrestling sources.

After his stellar debut at the 2023 World Adult Championships, where Shamil won a bronze medal and received a ticket to the Olympic Games in Paris, he never had a chance to perform on the international stage. At first, due to the decisions of the International Olympic Committee, he was unable to perform in Paris. Then there were rumors about a change of citizenship, which caused dissatisfaction with the Russian Wrestling Federation. The federation reacted badly to this decision, and Shamil lost the opportunity to enter the international arena. Now that the change of citizenship has been officially confirmed, Shamil, along with Olympic champion Magomed Ramazanov, will compete in the same team under the flag of the Bulgarian national team.
