After the Milan derby, Henrikh Mkhitaryan answered questions from an Armenian journalist from Azatutyun TV. During the interview, the 36-year-old footballer was asked about the Armenian national team and the possibility of his return.
— What is the reason for the Armenian national team’s failures? What can be changed to achieve positive results?
— It has been three years since I last played for the national team. I don’t know the internal situation, I’m not aware of what’s happening there, so I can’t name the reasons. The only thing I can do is wish the boys good luck so they can overcome this situation. Of course, it’s not easy, but we’ve been through such phases before. We need to work hard, and success will come.
— Some believe that you left the national team due to a conflict with the federation. If the leadership changes, would you consider returning?
— I don’t want to discuss this topic. The time will come, and you will know the truth. I can only say that it was my personal decision, and no one forced me. At that moment, I decided to end my international career, and I am not planning to change that decision now.
— So, you will not return in the near future?
— I will not return.
When asked how long he plans to continue his professional career, Mkhitaryan responded that he would play as long as his physical condition allows. Once he feels he can no longer handle the workload, he will consider retiring.
The Milan vs. Inter match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan playing for 76 minutes.
