Portugal reach Futsal EURO 2026 final: a classic showdown with Spain awaits

Portugal are through to the Futsal EURO 2026 final after a comeback 4–1 win over France. Despite the convincing final scoreline, it was no easy path for the reigning champions — France struck first, with Touré scoring in the 6th minute. However, by halftime Portugal led 2–1 thanks to goals from Diogo Santos and Tomás Paçó, and extended their lead in the second half with goals from Erick and an unfortunate Gedour own goal following a strike by Bernardo Paçó.

Two late first-half corners taken by Pany Varela proved decisive, as Tomás Paçó scored one and assisted another, also playing a role in the third goal — a truly outstanding performance by the young Portuguese player.

France once again fall just short of the final, as they did at their debut World Cup in 2024. Nevertheless, the team proved they are now a serious contender in European futsal. On February 7, they will face Croatia — their group-stage rival, with that match having ended 2–2 — in the third-place playoff.

This was Portugal’s 16th consecutive win in EURO final tournaments, and 20th including qualifiers — a record. This will be the third EURO final between Portugal and Spain: in 2010 Spain won 4–2, while in 2018 Portugal triumphed 3–2 after extra time. Now, a new chapter in the Iberian rivalry is set to unfold.
