The Armenian boxer from Belgium, Hovhannes Martirosyan (19-1), secured a victory over Tanzanian fighter Salimu Jengo (21-5-1) and claimed the vacant IBO InterContinental title in the super lightweight division.
The fight ended early in the third round. Martirosyan knocked his opponent down twice before the referee stopped the bout.
Thus, Martirosyan regained the belt he had held until February 2024. At that time, he voluntarily vacated the title to compete for the WBC belt in England but lost to Irishman Pierce O'Leary. After that, the 32-year-old boxer secured two wins and returned for another title fight. On March 29, during a boxing event in Sint-Truiden, he defeated Jengo to become the IBO InterContinental champion.
