The Football Federation of Armenia has officially approved the expansion of the Premier League. In the 2026/27 season, 12 teams will take part in Armenia’s top football division.
The decision was made by the FFA Executive Committee during an online vote. The proposal to hold the new Premier League season with 12 clubs was supported by all 12 members of the Executive Committee. No one voted against the proposal, and there were no abstentions.
At the same time, key details of the new season remain open. Issues related to the competition format, calendar, and the limit on the number of foreign players will be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the FFA Executive Committee.
According to the preliminary list, all 10 current participants of the Armenian Premier League are expected to take part in the 2026/27 season, along with two clubs from the First League — Sardarapat and Syunik.
Thus, the Armenian championship may be held in an expanded format for the first time in a long period. This is expected to increase the number of matches and raise competition both in the race for European qualification and in the lower part of the table.
