Yoti Hatzialexiou, Nürnberg Sporting Director:
"Our scouting department thoroughly analyzed Styopa and recommended him with full confidence as he meets our criteria for a left-footed player. At 1.92 meters, he also brings good physicality. With this transfer, we are responding to the departures of Ondrej Karafiat, Tim Drexler, and Robin Knoche. With Styopa, we feel very secure at the center of defense for the second half of the season and warmly welcome him to Nürnberg."
Styopa Mkrtchyan:
"I’m looking forward to starting my career in German football and am excited for the challenge that awaits in the 2. Bundesliga. I’m very happy this move came through and can’t wait to play in front of FCN’s fans."
Mkrtchyan played for Osijek since 2023, appearing in 59 matches and scoring one goal. It was his third season in the Croatian top division. He has also earned 23 caps for the Armenian national team.
Nürnberg currently sits 9th in the 2. Bundesliga and aims to strengthen its defense for the second half of the season.
