On May 3 in Riyadh, Armenian boxer Noel Mikaelian (27-3) lost to Sweden’s Badou Jack (29-3-3) via majority decision in a WBC cruiserweight title bout.
Judges scored the fight 115–113, 114–114, and 115–113 in favor of Jack. The decision sparked controversy, especially considering the punch statistics.
According to Compubox, Mikaelian threw 670 punches compared to Jack’s 369 and landed 153 (Jack landed 122). Mikaelian also had a clear advantage in power punches to the head (73 vs. 44), though he slightly trailed in body shots (33 vs. 45). Overall, the Armenian fighter appeared more active and aggressive throughout the bout.
The fight was part of the co-main event of the evening, preceding the headline bout between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and William Scull. Canelo won by unanimous decision and became the undisputed super middleweight world champion.
