Participants of the match between the national teams of Armenia and Ukraine in the opening round of the final stage of EURO‑2026 shared their emotions and assessed the game after the final whistle. The encounter was intense and generated significant interest among experts and fans alike.

Armenia national futsal team defeated the Ukraine national futsal team 2–1, celebrating their first-ever victory in the final stage of the European Championship.

Migren Dermendzhyan, who scored both goals for Armenia, admitted that he is still overwhelmed by what happened on the court:

“It’s very hard to put these emotions into words — the tension is still there. Our journey at this tournament has only just begun. We are happy, but we hope there is much more to come. Playing at the European Futsal Championship is a dream, and I had always dreamed of scoring here. We knew Ukraine were a very strong opponent, but we had a clear tactical plan and believed in ourselves until the very end. Our hard work paid off.”

Armenia head coach Ruben Nazaretyan emphasized the importance of a successful start and thanked his players:

“I am very happy with the victory over such a strong opponent in our opening match. It’s a great way to start the tournament. I hope we can continue in the same spirit. Our goal is to win the next two matches as well. I’m grateful to my players — we talked about this before the game, and everything worked out exactly as planned.”

The Ukrainian camp also acknowledged the high level of the opponent. Ukraine’s goalscorer Vladyslav Pervieiev thanked the fans for their support:

“We knew Armenia were a good team. We prepared well, but futsal can be unpredictable. There are still two matches ahead, and now we’ll focus on them. Huge thanks to our fans — they support us everywhere and are essentially our sixth player.”

Ukraine head coach Oleksandr Kosenko pointed out his team’s issues, especially in the first half:

“It was a very difficult match. Now we need to focus on preparing for the next game. In the first half, we lacked the necessary speed and movement. In the second half we changed our approach, and it helped, but not enough to influence the final result.”

The coach also recalled that Ukraine had previously started European Championships with defeats, yet later advanced deep into the tournament.

Armenia will play their next match on January 25 against the Czech Republic national futsal team.
