Inter Milan drew 0–0 with Como in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final. As a result, the fate of the ticket to the final will be decided in the return match.
Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan started the game on the bench and came on in the 85th minute as a late substitute.
The match was largely a tactical battle with few clear scoring opportunities. The hosts began actively and tried to press their opponents, but Inter’s defense remained solid. In one episode, Inter goalkeeper Josep Martínez saved his team after a dangerous shot from Nico Paz.
After the break, Inter controlled more of the initiative. The visitors’ most dangerous moment came early in the second half when Matteo Darmian struck the post following a quick attack. Como also had a great chance to open the scoring, but Alex Valle failed to capitalize from close range.
In the second half, Inter head coach Cristian Chivu attempted to strengthen the team with substitutions, bringing on Marcus Thuram, Piotr Zieliński, Denzel Dumfries, Luis Henrique, and later Mkhitaryan. However, neither side managed to find the net.
The second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final will take place on April 22 in Milan at the San Siro stadium.
Inter will soon face an important Serie A match: on March 8 the team will play the Milan derby against AC Milan, who share both the stadium and a close position in the league standings with the Nerazzurri.
