Mbappe Scores Twice as France Beat Senegal at World Cup 2026

France made a successful start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In their opening match of Group I, Didier Deschamps’ side defeated Senegal 3-1.

The first half was far from easy for the French team. Senegal played in an organized manner, broke forward quickly on the counterattack and had several chances to open the scoring. However, after the break, France significantly increased the tempo and improved the quality of their attacking play.

The main hero of the match was Kylian Mbappe. In the 66th minute, the France captain opened the scoring after an assist from Michael Olise, who produced an excellent performance. In the 82nd minute, PSG forward Bradley Barcola doubled France’s lead.

Senegal managed to get back into the game late on, as Ibrahim Mbaye, another PSG player, scored in the 90+5th minute. However, the intrigue did not last long. Just one minute later, Mbappe struck from long range to complete his brace and seal the final score at 3-1.

That goal was historic for Mbappe: the forward moved past Olivier Giroud to become France’s all-time leading goalscorer. France begin the tournament with an important victory and immediately take the lead in Group I, where Norway and Iraq are also competing.
