Martin Poghosyan Wins European U23 Silver, Anna Amroyan Claims Snatch Bronze

Armenian weightlifters continue to add to their country's medal tally at the 2026 European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Durrës, Albania. The latest medals for Armenia were secured by Martin Poghosyan (85 kg) and Anna Amroyan (77 kg), although Amroyan's competition ended prematurely due to an injury.
Martin Poghosyan claimed the silver medal in the men's 85 kg category at the European U23 Championships, recording a combined total of 343 kg.
In the snatch, the Armenian weightlifter successfully lifted 149 kg and 153 kg but failed his third attempt at 156 kg. His performance placed him fifth in the discipline.
Poghosyan delivered a stronger performance in the clean and jerk. He successfully lifted 186 kg and then 190 kg, earning a small silver medal in the discipline. His combined total of 343 kg secured second place overall and the European U23 runner-up title.
Anna Amroyan earned a small bronze medal in the women's 77 kg snatch, but was unable to complete the competition.
After missing her opening attempt, the Armenian weightlifter successfully lifted 98 kg before improving her result to 102 kg. That performance was enough to secure third place in the snatch.
Unfortunately, Amroyan suffered an injury during her first clean and jerk attempt and was forced to withdraw from the remainder of the competition. According to the Armenian Weightlifting Federation, the injury is not considered serious.
Armenia's other representative in the women's 77 kg category, Alina Sukiasyan, narrowly missed out on a podium finish, placing fourth overall.
In the snatch, Sukiasyan successfully lifted 98 kg and 101 kg, finishing fourth in the discipline. She managed one successful clean and jerk attempt at 120 kg but failed to lift 125 kg on her subsequent attempts, placing fifth in that discipline.
With a combined total of 221 kg (101+120), Sukiasyan finished fourth overall.
Armenia continues its successful campaign at the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships, collecting medals in both individual disciplines and overall classifications.
