Joseph Oughourlian’s Lens win French Super Cup for the first time in club history

French club Lens, owned by Armenian businessman Joseph Oughourlian, have achieved a historic milestone by winning the French Super Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

In the decisive match at their home stadium, Stade Bollaert-Delelis, Lens defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0. The victory was even more impressive considering that Lens were forced to play with ten men from the 39th minute, yet still managed to protect their lead and prevent the Parisian side from turning the game around.

This is the first French Super Cup triumph in Lens’ history. The club had previously appeared in the competition only once, in 1998, when they also faced Paris Saint-Germain and suffered a 1-0 defeat. Nearly three decades later, Lens took their revenge and added another national trophy to their collection.

The success of Lens is also significant for Armenian football. The French club’s owner, Joseph Oughourlian, is also a co-owner of Armenian side Sardarapat. The two clubs are actively developing their cooperation, creating additional opportunities for the exchange of expertise and the development of young players.

The new season promises to be particularly busy for Lens. In addition to their domestic campaign in Ligue 1, the club will also compete in the UEFA Champions League, where they will look to carry their strong start onto the European stage.

In the opening round of the new Ligue 1 season, Lens will host Auxerre on August 22.
