The Cyprus national team played another friendly match and drew 1-1 with Slovenia.
Cyprus made an active start to the game and took the lead as early as the 7th minute. The goal was scored by forward Marinos Tzionis, who plays for Romanian club UTA Arad.
In the second half, the situation became more difficult for Cyprus after Andreou was sent off. Playing with ten men, the team failed to hold on to its lead, as Slovenia equalized in the 65th minute.
For Cyprus, this was one of the friendly matches held as part of their preparations for future official games. On June 7, the team will play another friendly — against Liechtenstein.
This result is also of particular interest for the Armenian national team. Cyprus will be the first opponent for Yeghishe Melikyan’s side in the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League. The Cyprus vs Armenia match will take place on October 2 in Cyprus.
It should be noted that Cyprus have been showing confident performances in recent matches and could offer serious resistance to Armenia.
Armenia and Cyprus will compete in Group C2 of the Nations League alongside Montenegro and Latvia.
