Karlen Hovhannisyan Undergoing Medical Ahead of Akron Move

Pyunik and Armenia national team midfielder Karlen Hovhannisyan is close to joining Akron. The 21-year-old is already in Tolyatti, where he is undergoing a medical ahead of completing the transfer, according to journalist Ivan Karpov.
According to the source, the deal is expected to be worth around €700,000, or 70 million rubles. If he successfully passes his medical, Hovhannisyan is set to sign a contract with Akron running until the summer of 2031.
It is also reported that the midfielder will not be considered a foreign player in the Russian Premier League or the Russian Cup.
Hovhannisyan is a product of Pyunik’s academy and has spent almost his entire career within the Yerevan club’s system. In total, the midfielder has made 81 appearances for Pyunik’s teams, scoring six goals and providing three assists. He has also featured in the UEFA Conference League.
In 2023, Hovhannisyan joined BKMA, the Armenian army club, where he played while completing his military service. Over two seasons, he made 53 appearances, recording four goals and one assist.
In June 2025, after completing his military service, Hovhannisyan returned to Pyunik and established himself in the first team. In 2026, the midfielder made his debut for the Armenia national team, featuring in friendly matches against Belarus, Kazakhstan and Moldova.
