Armenian national team representative in the 63 kg weight category, Karen Aslanyan, won the silver medal at the 2025 European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championship.

This was Karen’s first appearance in a final at the European or World Championships. Previously, he had won three bronze medals at the European Championships and one at the World Championship. Now, the 29-year-old Armenian has added a European silver to his collection.

In the final bout, Aslanyan was defeated by Turkey’s Kerem Kamal, who became a two-time European champion thanks to this victory. The result of the final sparked controversy due to questionable refereeing.

Karen Aslanyan’s results at the 2025 European Championship:

  • Quarterfinal: Karen Aslanyan (Armenia) - Mayrbek Salimov (Poland) 8-0

  • Semifinal: Karen Aslanyan (Armenia) - Andriy Semenchuk (Ukraine) 8-0

  • Final: Karen Aslanyan (Armenia) - Kerem Kamal (Turkey) 2-7.
