On April 23, the 2025 European Judo Championships kicked off in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. On the first day of competition, medals were contested in two weight categories for men (60 and 66 kg) and two for women (48 and 52 kg).
Representing Armenia on the opening day was Ashik Andreyan (60 kg), who showed high-level judo and reached the bronze medal bout. There, he was defeated by Olympic medalist Luka Mkheidze and ultimately placed fifth.
By the end of the first day, French judokas claimed two gold medals. Georgia and Kosovo earned one gold each.
