21-year-old midfielder Irakli Yegoian, who has Georgian and Armenian roots, has officially joined Excelsior Rotterdam. The player signed a contract with the Eredivisie club until 2028.
Last season, Yegoian played for Vitesse in the Eerste Divisie, where he scored 8 goals and provided 5 assists. According to Excelsior’s technical manager Niels van Duinen, the transfer became possible due to the situation at Vitesse, while Yegoian himself will bring “creativity and football intelligence” to the team.
Yegoian described himself as a modern box-to-box midfielder:
“I love to attack, but also to help in defense. I think I have a good instinct for goals, I always want to score. Most importantly, I will give everything for the team and the club,” said the player.
The midfielder noted that he feels the trust of his new club and considers the move the right step in his career. His debut Eredivisie season will be an important challenge.
Previously, the media linked Yegoian with a possible call-up to the Armenian national team, but for now, he continues to play for Georgia’s U21 team.
