Inal Tasoev Brings Third Gold to Russia – Results of Day 7 at the 2025 Judo World Championships

On June 19, the seventh day of the 2025 Judo World Championships took place in the Hungarian capital, Budapest. Today, medals were contested in the men’s over 100 kg and women’s over 78 kg weight categories.

South Korean judoka Kim Hayun became the world champion in the women’s heavyweight division — this is her first World Championship gold. In the final, Kim defeated the reigning world champion Mao Arai from Japan by ippon.

The men’s heavyweight final saw a fierce battle between Russian Inal Tasoev and Georgian Guram Tushishvili. The 27-year-old Ossetian Tasoev won by waza-ari and claimed his second world title. This marks the third gold medal for Russia at the 2025 World Championships.

With the individual events concluded, Japan leads the medal standings with 6 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Russia is in second place with 3 gold and 2 bronze.

World champions from the Russian team include Inal Tasoev (+100 kg), Matvey Kanikovsky (100 kg), and Tumar Arbuzov (81 kg).

Japan’s gold medalists are Ryuju Nagayama (60 kg), Takeshi Takeoka (66 kg), Sanshiro Murao (90 kg), Uta Abe (52 kg, women), Haruka Kaju (63 kg, women), and Shiho Tanaka (70 kg, women).
