Khoren Bayramyan: Dreams of a major tournament and love for the Armenian national team

FC Rostov midfielder Khoren Bayramyan shared his thoughts with Sport24 about playing for the Armenian national team, the challenges in his career, and his dream of participating in a major international tournament.

Bayramyan has played 22 matches for Armenia and scored two goals. His last call-up to the national team was in 2023. Former head coach Alexander Petrakov stopped selecting him due to a conflict, just as he did with Tigran Barseghyan. However, the Rostov player believes he can return to the national team under the new head coach, who has yet to be announced.

This season, Bayramyan has provided two assists in 21 matches for Rostov.

The midfielder emphasized that he still considers himself an active player and has no plans to end his international career.

"I feel like an active footballer. Whether I am part of the national team or not is for those in charge to decide. Yes, I have had some difficult situations, but we’ll see what happens. The most important thing is for me to stay healthy and keep playing—then it’s up to them to decide who deserves a call-up."

Despite past disagreements, Bayramyan stresses that he still wants to represent Armenia at the highest level.

He also spoke about his close relationships with national team teammates like Eduard Spertsyan and Tigran Barseghyan. He admitted that he misses playing with them and hopes to reunite on the pitch.

"I haven’t finished my national team career yet. I want to play. I stay in touch with Spertsyan and Barseghyan—we all miss each other and want to play together again."

Like many Armenian footballers and fans, Bayramyan dreams of seeing Armenia compete on the international stage—whether at the European Championship or the World Cup.

"I dream of participating in a major tournament with the national team. I can only wish us luck so that it happens soon. Our country and our people deserve it. Football is loved passionately in Armenia—they deserve this. It’s up to my generation and the younger players to make it happen. Sooner or later, it will."
