The international team tournament “Trophies of Northern Palmyra” continues in Saint Petersburg, held in a dynamic format with 20-minute sets. Fans witnessed two spectacular matches featuring Karen Khachanov and Alexander Bublik.
Khachanov brings a key singles victory to the “Sphinxes”
In one of the day’s main matches, Karen Khachanov, representing the “Sphinxes,” confidently defeated the leader of the “Lions,” Alexander Bublik. The match ended with scores of 5:2, 5:4, 3:4, and the overall team result after the singles was 48:34 in favor of the Sphinxes.
Doubles match gives the “Lions” a chance for revenge
However, the situation changed in the second part of the day. In doubles, the duo of Bublik and Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor managed to take revenge. They beat the Russian pair — Khachanov and Daniil Medvedev — 13:7, distributing the advantage across sets: 4:4, 4:2, and 5:1.
The match was not only tense but also entertaining: during the game, team captains took the court — the legendary Mansour Bahrami for the Sphinxes and Serbian Janko Tipsarević for the Lions.
Score after the first day
Despite the loss in doubles, the Sphinxes remain in the lead after the first day of the tournament. The overall score stands at 55:47 in favor of the team of Khachanov and Medvedev.
