Armenia’s national team head coach, John van’t Schip, announced at a press conference that Kaiserslautern forward Grant-Leon Ranos has left the national team camp ahead of the match against Georgia.
According to van’t Schip, Ranos demanded a spot in the starting lineup, threatening to leave the team otherwise. The head coach did not guarantee him a place in the starting eleven, after which the player decided to leave the squad.
"I want to clarify the situation regarding one of Armenia’s national team players. Grant-Leon Ranos has left the team camp. He spoke to me and set a condition: either he starts in the lineup, or he leaves. Never in my coaching career have I encountered such a situation. Deciding who starts is the coach’s prerogative, not the player’s. In fact, he has played only a few minutes in the Second Bundesliga. That is why I decided he would not start in the upcoming match," John van’t Schip stated at the press conference.
