From July 4 to 6, Madrid hosted the 23rd edition of the Spanish Grand Prix in Olympic wrestling — one of the key international events of the summer season, listed in the official United World Wrestling (UWW) calendar. The tournament took place at the Central Pavilion of the High Sports Council, across three mats, featuring all three Olympic styles: Greco-Roman, freestyle, and women’s wrestling.

More than 200 wrestlers from 35 countries participated, including athletes from Kazakhstan, Canada, Venezuela, France, Poland, Puerto Rico, and others. The mats in Madrid saw Olympic champions, world medalists, and rising stars of international wrestling. Once again, the tournament confirmed its status as the main summer preparatory event ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Croatia in mid-September.

Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov also competed at the event.

Team Kazakhstan performed particularly well in Greco-Roman, winning four gold medals. Freestyle was marked by the triumph of athletes from Bahrain and Puerto Rico, while Polish and Canadian wrestlers shined in the women’s categories.

The Armenian national team did not participate in the event. Five Armenian wrestlers will compete in the upcoming tournament in Budapest.
