Gor Minasyan wins bronze in super heavyweight division at 2026 Asian Games

Armenian weightlifter Gor Minasyan, representing Bahrain, won a bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Minasyan finished third in the over 110 kg category.

The 31-year-old posted a total of 440 kg. Minasyan lifted 205 kg in the snatch and 235 kg in the clean and jerk, finishing third in both disciplines.

Iran’s Ali Davoudi won the competition with a total of 466 kg — 206 kg in the snatch and 260 kg in the clean and jerk. Iraq’s Ali Ammar finished just one kilogram behind him with 465 kg (219+246).

Davoudi’s total was 5 kg higher than the 461 kg with which Armenian weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan won the 2025 World Championship.

The latest results make the upcoming World Championships particularly intriguing in the super heavyweight division. The tournament begins on October 27, and legendary Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze is also planning to compete. If he takes to the platform, the battle for medals in the heaviest category will become even more competitive.

The 110 kg category will also be of particular interest for Armenia, where Uzbekistan’s Akbar Djuraev is expected to compete against Garik Karapetyan at the World Championships. Djuraev produced a phenomenal total of 423 kg at the Asian Games (197+226).
