Gor Harutyunyan defeats Azerbaijani opponent to become 2026 European sambo champion

Armenian sambist Gor Harutyunyan won the gold medal at the 2026 European Sambo Championships, which are taking place in Tbilisi.

Harutyunyan competed in sport sambo in the under-88 kg weight category. In the final bout, the Armenian representative defeated Azerbaijan’s Adil Adilzade 5:2 and became European champion.

Gor had a strong tournament and confidently made his way to the gold medal. Before the final, the Armenian sambist claimed victories over athletes from Latvia, Spain and Georgia, before overcoming his Azerbaijani opponent in the decisive bout.

This is already the second gold medal for the Armenian national team at the 2026 European Sambo Championships. Earlier, Karen Sargsyan became European champion in the under-58 kg weight category.
