Head coach of the Armenian national team Yegishe Melikyan commented on the team’s performance in the 2026 World Cup qualification. The coach highlighted the difficulty of the campaign and apologized to the fans for the disappointing results.
“This qualifying stage was difficult for us. First of all, I want to apologize for our defeats. I know the expectations were high, but we couldn’t give you the joy you deserved. At the same time, I want to sincerely thank everyone who stood by us throughout the entire qualifying cycle. Your support gave us the strength to keep working and become stronger as a team. We will return more prepared, stronger, and more united,” Melikyan’s words were cited by the Football Federation of Armenia.

Armenia competed in qualifying Group F, finishing last — fourth — with three points. Their only victory was at home against Ireland (2:1).
Armenia’s results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers:
Armenia — Portugal: 0–5

Hungary — Armenia: 2–0

Despite the final standing, Melikyan expressed confidence that the team will correct its mistakes and approach the next competitions more prepared.
