Former Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, in his recently released autobiography, shared details about his difficult relationship with José Mourinho. The Armenian footballer recalled several tense moments of communication with the Portuguese coach.
According to Henrikh, one day the following conversation took place between them:
— Henrikh: “You have been criticizing me for a year and a half since I joined United.”
— José: “You are shit. Do you understand?”
— Henrikh: “You are the shit. A huge one.”
— José: “Get out, I never want to see you again.”
After that, the player notes, their relationship was completely ruined.
Mkhitaryan also revealed that Mourinho repeatedly wrote to him in private messages:
“Micki, please leave.”
Later, the text slightly changed:
“Micki, please leave so I can sign Alexis Sánchez.”
Soon after, a swap deal with Arsenal took place, sending Mkhitaryan to London while Sánchez moved to Manchester. However, as Henrikh admits, the transfer brought little benefit.
Interestingly, a few years later, the paths of the footballer and the coach crossed again — this time at Roma. There they managed to build a working relationship and even won the UEFA Conference League trophy together.
