Milan’s Inter held a friendly match against Madrid’s Atlético on October 10 in Benghazi (Libya). The game ended 1–1 in regular time, after which the Spaniards prevailed in a penalty shootout.
Both teams took to the field at the renovated Benghazi International Stadium, using the international break to give playing time to players not called up to their national teams. Among them was former Armenian national team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who played 81 minutes.
In the 35th minute, Atlético forward Carlos Martin opened the score, beating Josep Martinez in goal. Inter equalized early in the second half: in the 59th minute, Mkhitaryan delivered a precise corner, and Yann Bisseck headed it into the net — 1–1.
In the second half, the Italians had several chances to go ahead: Kaczmarski and Agbonifo came close to scoring, but Atlético goalkeeper Juan Musso made reliable saves. In the end, the winner was decided via penalties, where Atlético proved more accurate — 4–3.
The match was a useful test for both sides, especially considering that on November 26 Inter and Atlético will meet again — this time in the Champions League group stage.
