17-year-old Sunderland forward Finn Geragusyan, who has Armenian roots, has received his first call-up to the Armenia U21 national team. He has been named in the squad for the Euro 2027 qualifying matches against Montenegro (November 14) and Sweden (November 18), both of which will take place in Armavir.
Geragusyan was born in Durham, England, near Sunderland. A product of the Sunderland academy, he currently plays for both the U18 and U21 teams. Despite his young age, he stands out due to his physical attributes — he is 194 cm tall and is effective both as a central striker and as a wide attacker.
In the 2025/26 season, Geragusyan has scored 3 goals in 5 matches for Sunderland U18 and recorded a goal and an assist for Sunderland U21 in Premier League 2. Last season, he also performed strongly in the club’s system:
U21: 5 goals and 5 assists in 15 matches
U18: 9 goals and 4 assists in 16 matches
Geragusyan has already played for Armenia U19, scoring on his debut in 2024. However, the upcoming matches will be his first official appearances for Armenia and his first games on Armenian soil, as the U19 matches took place in Lithuania.
The player expresses strong emotional ties to Armenia. His father is of Armenian descent, and his grandparents moved to England from the Lebanese-Armenian community. Finn emphasizes that representing Armenia is an honor and an important step in his career:
“I’m very pleased with my progress over the past two years. I’m grateful to my coaches and the club for their trust. I know there’s still a lot of work ahead, but I will continue to give my best. Playing for the national team is a special feeling,” Geragusyan said earlier.
Armenian fans welcomed the news of his call-up. They have followed his progress in Sunderland’s academy closely, and now they will have the opportunity to see him play in Armenia.
