The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne (CAS) has fully dismissed the claim filed by FC Lokomotiv Yerevan and the Kananyans against the Football Federation of Armenia.
According to the ruling, all financial claims brought against the FFA were rejected. FC Lokomotiv Yerevan had demanded €2,012,229 from the Federation as compensation for alleged direct damages, as well as €1,445,000 for alleged lost profits.
In addition, the Kananyans demanded a further €1,400,000 in compensation for alleged moral damages. In total, the claims exceeded €4.8 million, but CAS found no grounds to uphold them.
The case is connected to the high-profile match-fixing investigation in Armenian football. On July 3, 2020, at an extraordinary meeting of the FFA Executive Committee, strict disciplinary measures were taken against several clubs and individuals. At the time, five clubs — Aragats, Torpedo, Masis, Lokomotiv and Yerevan — as well as 58 individuals were disqualified over match-fixing.
The FFA emphasized that it acted within its statutory and disciplinary powers, carrying out the necessary proceedings and applying sanctions in accordance with its regulations.
Later, on June 28, 2022, by decision of the 22nd regular FFA Assembly, FC Lokomotiv Yerevan’s membership in the Federation was terminated. CAS had previously confirmed that the Football Federation of Armenia acted lawfully in terminating the club’s membership.
The latest ruling by the Lausanne-based arbitration court is another victory for the FFA in this case: the court fully rejected all compensation claims brought against the Federation.
The Football Federation of Armenia has reaffirmed its firm position in the fight against match-fixing and any form of unfair conduct in sport. The Federation intends to continue taking all possible measures to prevent such cases and to hold those responsible accountable within the scope of its authority.
