Belarusian weightlifter Yauheni Tsikhantsou won three gold medals at the 2025 European Championships in Chișinău in the up to 102 kg weight category. In a tense battle for first place, he outperformed Spain’s Marcos Ruiz Velasco, showing superiority in both the snatch and clean & jerk. Tsikhantsou lifted 181 kg in the snatch and 218 kg in the clean & jerk, totaling 399 kg — the best result of the competition.
Spaniard Ruiz Velasco, with results of 180 kg and 212 kg (392 kg total), took silver, while the bronze went to Moldova’s Tudor Bratu (386 kg).
Armenia’s Ara Aganyan and Petros Petrosyan placed 4th and 5th, respectively. Aganyan was in contention for the big bronze: after the snatch, he was only 1 kg behind Moldova’s Bratu and attempted 212 kg in the clean & jerk to take the lead, but failed to complete the lift.
Petrosyan, who was 7th after the snatch (165 kg), gave it his all in the clean & jerk, ordering 222 kg, which would have given him a chance for small gold, but he failed to fix the barbell twice.
